Local, wholesome and seasonal are a focus of our dessert menu as much as of our other menus. Summer brings peach cakes and berry tarts using fruit from local farms, fall brings apple tarts. Chocolate is always in season.
Pastry chef Mike McGovern makes all of our desserts on premises from scratch without any mono-this or di-that. Except, of course, for Amy's cheesecake, which Amy makes from a recipe perfected by her grandmother. Mike graduated from the Philadelphia Restaurant School with a concentration in pastry, while Amy learned on the job, with more than 30 years of cake decorating experience.
"Desserts, made at the daily whim of Mike McGovern, are cheeky little numbers, but McGovern doesn't allow that cleverness to overwhelm. These are desserts that first taste good — that they also amuse you is a value-added bonus," says Teresa Politano in Inside Jersey.
"Be sure to save room for the decadent dessert options, such as chocolate bread pudding and homemade cheesecake (incredibly fluffy and delicious)," advises Lynn Ruane in New Jersey Monthly.
Karla Cook of The New York Times enthuses over Mike's walnut pie. "Dark and dense with walnuts, chocolate and a touch of molasses, it was yin to the yang of Mr. Coss's bright crab, a balanced finish to an evening of good eating."
We understand that a special dessert can be a very important part of a special celebration and we are here to help! Whether it is a 6-inch cake for two or a tiered cake for a crowd, we have the expertise to make a cake that not only looks good, but tastes good, too. If you would like to bring your own dessert, we have to charge you a small plate fee. After all, we still have to do the dishes after you leave. There will be a $2 per person "cakage" fee when you bring your own dessert.
